April 2026: The Day Everything Changed for Peru's Pedagogy Schools

On April 20, 2026, Peru's Minister of Education, María Esther Cuadros, stood before students, teachers, and cameras at the Escuela de Educación Superior Pedagógica (EESP) San Francisco de Asís in Chincha, Ica — and made it official.

For the first time in Peru's history, a public pedagogy institute had achieved recognition as an Official Cambridge International Examinations Preparation Centre.

Eight students from the final academic cycles walked away that day with something most of their peers across the country do not have: a Cambridge B2 First (FCE) certificate — a credential recognized by employers, universities, and governments in more than 130 countries. The ceremony was covered by TV Perú, La Lupa, and the official Gobierno del Perú news portal.

This was not a private language school in Miraflores. This was a public pedagogy institute — in a province — competing and winning at the international level. And it is not the last. MINEDU has made that very clear.

Resolución Viceministerial N° 024-2025-MINEDU, published on March 14, 2025, establishes that English teachers who apply for positions at public Institutos de Educación Superior Pedagógica (IESP) e Escuelas de Educación Superior Pedagógica (EESP) must hold an international English certification at level B2 or higher under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Not encouraged. Not recommended. Required.
